Spooktacular Halloween at RHISS!

It was a day full of fright, fun, and festive spirit as Riam Hill International Secondary School came alive with our Spooktacular Halloween 2025 celebration! 
Our Year 7 to Year 10 students embraced the spooky season with creativity and excitement — from dressing up in their most imaginative and eerie costumes to teaming up to solve mysterious challenges around the school. The energy, laughter, and cheers made the day truly unforgettable! 
The event featured a Costume Contest, thrilling group activities, and plenty of tricks and treats for everyone! Every corner of RHISS was filled with spooky decorations, joyful screams, and a strong sense of teamwork and school spirit.

RHISS Sports Day 2025

The much-anticipated Sports Day 2025 took place today at Champion Sports Court, bringing together our students, teachers, and coaches for a day filled with teamwork, determination, and school spirit. 
The event featured two main games — Badminton and Pickleball — held at the Champion Badminton Court and Champion Pickleball Court, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Students participated with great enthusiasm, showcasing their skills, effort, and sportsmanship throughout each match. 
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Coach Aaron and Coach Simon from Pro Pickleball Academy, and Coach James from JPro Badminton Academy, for their guidance and support.
This event was proudly sponsored by Pro Pickleball Academy, whose contribution played a key role in making the day a success. 
Sports Day 2025 served as a meaningful reminder that sports go beyond competition — they foster unity, discipline, and resilience among our students. The strong participation and positive spirit displayed today truly reflect the RHISS motto, Forever Forward.

A Meaningful Day of Learning and Achievement in German Language!

Riam Education Group successfully hosted the German exam and activity in collaboration with the team, Ms. Tarveer Kaur and Mr. Rafiq Sinin. We truly appreciate their dedication, time, and professionalism in ensuring a smooth and well-organized examination session.
The event provided an incredible opportunity for our students to put their language skills into practice and gain valuable experience in using German as a foreign language. Through this activity, they not only strengthened their communication abilities but also deepened their understanding of German culture and global perspectives.

International Food Cooking Workshop & Classes

A truly exciting and flavourful day for our RHISS students at Pullman Miri Waterfront yesterday! 
From the moment they stepped into the hotel, students were welcomed with smiles and guided into the world of professional hospitality and culinary arts. The day kicked off with a kitchen tour before the much-awaited Cooking Masterclass with Chef Alan, where they learned to make Peanut Butter Bars and Strawberry Panacotta from scratch. 
After a delicious buffet lunch, the learning continued with Chef Victoria, who taught students how to prepare their very own Homemade Japanese Avocado Goma Dressing — a fun, hands-on experience that combined creativity and teamwork. 
Students also explored behind the scenes at Pullman — visiting the Executive Lounge, Laundry Department, Guest Rooms, and even the Infinity Pool & Gym — discovering what makes a hotel run smoothly every day.
The day ended with a certificate presentation and photo session, marking a memorable learning journey filled with laughter, discovery, and inspiration. 
A huge thank you to Pullman Miri Waterfront for the warm hospitality and valuable experience. This workshop truly inspired our students to learn, explore, and move Forever Forward!

Young Achiever Business Olympiad – Business Simulation Challenge (Yabo Bsc) 2025

Our RHISS students showcased their entrepreneurial spirit and teamwork at the Young Achiever Business Olympiad – Business Simulation Challenge (YABO BSC), held at Shin Yang Hall,Miri on 18–19 October 2025. 
The 2-day challenge immersed students in real-world business experiences — from brainstorming and strategic planning to pitching innovative business ideas before a panel of judges. 
Through collaboration, negotiation, and creativity, our young achievers demonstrated confidence, leadership, and problem-solving skills throughout the event. 
It was truly inspiring to see their teamwork, enthusiasm, and passion in every task — from lively discussions to professional presentations and creative poster displays. 
This experience not only built entrepreneurial knowledge but also strengthened communication and critical thinking — preparing our students to move Forever Forward. 
A big thank you to the organisers and mentors for the opportunity, and congratulations to our outstanding RHISS participants for your dedication and spirit!

Our Year 7–10 students had the privilege to take part in the PhysioFix Talk & Scoliosis Observation

From 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, our guest speaker, Ms. Christ Ling Jia Xi, delivered an insightful session that shed light on the importance of spinal health, posture, and early detection of scoliosis. Students were guided through practical knowledge and observation activities, helping them to better understand how to take care of their bodies in their growing years. 
The talk was not only educational but also eye-opening, as it encouraged students to be more mindful of their health and empowered them with tips to maintain good physical well-being.
A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Christ Ling Jia Xi for sharing valuable expertise and to our students for their enthusiasm and participation throughout the session.

Mission Accomplished!

We are proud to share that the Sarawak Space Challenge Roadshow 2025 was successfully held at Riam Hill International Secondary School on Tuesday, 9 September 2025! 
From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Dato Lee Teck Fook Hall, only Year 7 to Year 9 students were treated to an exciting and inspiring session designed to spark curiosity in the world of space, science, and innovation. 
The program not only broadened their knowledge but also encouraged them to think beyond boundaries, nurture their creativity, and envision future possibilities in the fields of STEM and space exploration. Students were truly inspired to dream bigger and reach higher, taking a step closer to becoming tomorrow’s innovators and explorers. 
A heartfelt thank you to the organisers of the Sarawak Space Challenge Roadshow for bringing such a meaningful and enriching opportunity to our school community.

SUCCESSFUL STEM WORKSHOP: Gene Detective!

What an exciting Monday morning it was at RIAM Hill International Secondary School! On 11 August 2025, our Year 9 students had an unforgettable learning experience during the STEM Workshop: The Gene Detective, held in collaboration with Dr. Then Sue-Mian and her team from the University of Nottingham Malaysia. 

Students explored the world of DNA and genes through engaging capsule sessions, interactive e-learning tools, and a fun hands-on experiment — extracting DNA from bananas! 

With mobile devices in hand and curiosity in their minds, our young scientists dived into biology like never before. From learning the basics of DNA to performing real-life experiments, the excitement in the room was truly inspiring! 

Feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive — many said it was one of the most fun and memorable science workshops they’ve attended!

A massive thank you to Dr. Then and the team from the University of Nottingham Malaysia for bringing this eye-opening workshop to our school. Your passion for science lit a spark in our students that we know will keep growing!

Future Proof Week 2025: A Remarkable Finale at Red Crescent Miri!

Today marked an unforgettable final day of our Future Proof Week 2025! Our students from Riam Hill International Secondary School visited the Malaysian Red Crescent, Miri Branch, and came away with new knowledge, deeper empathy, and a profound respect for those working selflessly to serve the community. 
Here’s what our students had to say:
  • “I learned how to carry someone on a stretcher and saw the dialysis and Sunflower Centre. It made me feel grateful and sad at the same time.”
  • “We did CPR, learned about hygiene, and experienced what it’s like to be blindfolded or have sensory limitations.”
  • “I now know the Red Crescent helps people in need — not just in disasters, but also by supporting those with disabilities and chronic illness.”
  • “They don’t expect anything in return, and that’s what makes them so important to the community.”
Activities included:
  1. Disaster & first aid demos
  2. Sensory rehabilitation experiences
  3. Environmental awareness games (3R sorting!)
  4. Visits to the Sunflower Centre and Dialysis Unit
  5. Real-life stretcher carrying (Yes — even our teacher Dr. Adrian was carried! )
Seeing children and individuals with disabilities during our tour was an eye-opener for many of our students. It sparked discussions about compassion, inclusion, and how each of us can make a difference — no matter how small. A heartfelt THANK YOU to Red Crescent Miri and your amazing team for making this day educational, inspiring, and deeply meaningful. Your tireless efforts to help those in need — from emergency response to health services and humanitarian care — are nothing short of heroic. This visit reminded us all that saving lives, spreading kindness, and serving others is the kind of knowledge that never expires. #FutureProofWeek2025 — officially wrapped with heart, humility, and hope.

From Palm Oil to Korean Delights! What a Day for Rhiss!

Our students from Riam Hill International Secondary School, Miri had an unforgettable experience during #FutureProofWeek2025, starting with an eye-opening visit to Adong Palm Oil Mill! 
And after the industrial tour? Time to switch gears… to the kitchen! 
Thanks to the amazing chef team from Riam Institute of Technology, our students rolled up their sleeves for a Korean cooking workshop — and cooked up a storm! 
  1. Japchae (잡채) — sweet potato glass noodles
  2. Bibimbap (비빔밥) — colourful rice bowls with veggies & egg
  • “It was so tasty — and we made it ourselves!”
  • “I’m going home with a full tummy and a big smile!”
Big thanks to Adong Palm Oil Mill for the educational tour and to Riam Institute of Technology for the hands-on culinary fun. This day was all about learning, creating, and enjoying — the Riam Hill way!

Future Proof Week 2025: Rhiss Visits Adong Palm Oil Mill, Miri!

Students from Riam Hill International Secondary School, Miri had the chance to explore Adong Palm Oil Mill during #FutureProofWeek2025 — and what a surprising and exciting industrial visit it was! 
From massive machinery to the smell of freshly processed palm oil, our students got a real-world look at how palm oil is made — and learned a thing or two along the way!
Here’s what some of our students had to say:
  • “I was surprised by how big and noisy the machines were!”
  • “The tanks were huge, and palm oil really smells like curry!”
  • “I didn’t know palm oil only comes from the fruit!”
  • “Learning how the machines work was so cool.”
And of course, they had fun too!
  • “Wearing the safety helmet was fun!”
  • “The bumpy bus ride was my favourite part!”
  • “I enjoyed the refreshments!”
Most importantly, they observed safety in action:
  • “We all wore helmets — safety first!”
  • “There were hazard signs everywhere!”
  • “We learned how important safety gear is in this kind of environment.”
A huge thank you to Adong Palm Oil Mill for welcoming our students and helping them learn through experience. It was truly an eye-opening visit!

Exploring Nature at Taman Tumbina Zoo – Future Proof Week 2025

As part of our #FutureProofWeek2025, students from Riam Hill International Secondary School, Miri enjoyed a meaningful and fun-filled learning experience at Taman Tumbina Zoo, Bintulu! 
This trip opened their eyes to Malaysia’s rich biodiversity — from flamingos and owls to sun bears and leopard cats. Along the way, they gained valuable lessons on wildlife conservation and environmental responsibility. 
Here’s what some of our students had to say:
  •  “I learned that flamingos are pink because of their diet!”
  • “Eagles are raptors – and they live in Malaysia!”
  • “Leopard cats really exist – and they’re beautiful!”
  • When asked what message they got about protecting the environment:
  • “Recycle and donate!”
  • “Walk instead of using fuel transport!”
  • “Protect animals before they go extinct!”
  • “Don’t throw rubbish — it harms their habitats!”
  • “Animals are cool — we should protect them!”
This trip wasn’t just about sightseeing — it was about connecting with nature, reflecting on our role in the ecosystem, and understanding why conservation matters. A heartfelt thank you to Taman Tumbina Zoo for their warm hospitality, and to the amazing zoo guides who helped us grow and learn throughout the visit!

Future-Proofing the Future!

Riam Hill International Secondary School, Miri is proud to have joined the ECF 2025: RHISS @ IEB – UPM Bintulu program on 23 July 2025! 
Our 54 students and 6 dedicated teachers had an incredible day of learning and exploration at Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus, guided by the passionate team at the Institute Ekosains Borneo (IEB). From making biodegradable polymers and soap , to hands-on GPS tracking  and understanding the climate impact of fashion – our students truly experienced science in action.

FPW25 in Full Flight with Curtin University Malaysia!

What an exciting and inspiring day at RIAM Hill International Secondary School as part of Future-Proof Week 2025! A huge shoutout and heartfelt THANK YOU to our incredible partners at Curtin University Malaysia for delivering two amazing, hands-on sessions that truly sparked curiosity and learning! 
  • Engineering Highlight:Our students took to the skies (indoors!) with the Drone Workshop led by Mr. Foad Motalebi. They learned the engineering behind drone technology and put their skills to the test by navigating through an obstacle course — all while learning the science behind the scenes! 
  • Business & Life Skills Boost:Meanwhile, students joined the Personal Finance Workshop with Dr. Mohammad Abdul Matin Chowdhury. Through fun games and real-life scenarios, they explored budgeting, saving, smart spending, and what it means to take control of their financial future. 
And yes — we were also treated to delicious food thanks to Curtin’s generosity! Thank you for fueling both our minds and stomachs today!

A Super Day of Learning at Riam Hill!

This morning, our students kicked off the day with not one, but two engaging talks as part of Future-Proof Week! Each session opened new doors of thought, sparked curiosity, and encouraged our learners to reflect on their values, identity, and aspirations. 
In the afternoon, it was Movie Time! Students headed to the cinema to watch Superman — not just for fun, but as a unique educational experience.
Through this superhero lens, they explored themes of identity, responsibility, moral choices, and what it truly means to be a hero in today’s world. After the movie, students had time to reflect on the deeper messages and how they relate to their own personal journeys and goals. 
It was a perfect balance of learning, thinking, and fun — a day that connected classroom ideas with real-world stories.

Her talk, “My Odyssey: Designing the Life You Desire,” was packed with eye-opening insights on:

 Exciting News at Riam Hill International! 

We were thrilled to host a special workshop for our Year 11 students:“Diving into the Insights of Data Analytics” — a hands-on session designed to spark curiosity and build real-world Excel skills! 
Our students explored how to find patterns, trends, and meaningful stories hidden in data — a fantastic opportunity to step into the world of analytics!
A special shoutout to Mdm Khin Than Myint, who was the main facilitator of this workshop. The materials and content were all developed by her, drawing on over 20 years of experience in teaching this unit. She has conducted similar sessions elsewhere, including at Sandakan School — and we’re so grateful for her expertise!
We’d also like to thank Dr. Ivy Hii from Curtin University, who helped coordinate the session and supported the facilitation. We truly appreciate both educators for making this workshop such a success!

Young Voices, Big Impact!

Cyberbullying Awareness with Year 7, 8 & 9 Students!What an inspiring day with our amazing Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9 students from Riam Hill International Secondary School who joined the “Stop Cyberbullying Now!” workshop! Together, we explored what it means to be safe, kind, and respectful online, and learned that every click, comment, and post matters.
Through fun, hands-on activities, students learned how to:
  • Identify the different types of cyberbullying
  • Understand how it affects not just victims, but also bystanders
  • Use empathy to support others
  • Become upstanders and speak out against harmful behavior
Differentiated Workshop Highlights:
  1. “What’s the Word?” – Students used their creativity to act out cyberbullying terms in fun mini-dramas!
  2. “The Online Web” – A powerful visual showing how quickly hurtful messages spread online.

STOP CYBERBULLYING NOW!

Empowering Youth for a Kinder Digital World.We had an amazing time at our Stop Cyberbullying Now! workshop at Shin Yang Hall with Year 10 & 11 students from Riam Hill International! 
The session tackled the impact of cyberbullying, how to recognize it, and how to take a stand. Through fun, interactive activities — from superhero skits to empathy role-plays — students learned to be upstanders, not bystanders.

Happy World Book Day from RHISS!

We had an amazing time celebrating books, creativity, and imagination! Our students loved hearing from author Mr. Malcolm Mejin, who shared his journey, writing insights, and kind advice for young aspiring writers. His Writer’s Workshop was a hit—full of inspiration, encouragement, and storytelling magic! Thank you, Mr. Malcolm, for empowering our students to dream big and write boldly! 
What an out-of-this-world day! From an inspiring session with author Mr Malcolm to our exciting House Sorting event – Jupiter, Mercury, Neptune, Saturn, and more—via an immersive audiovisual presentation. Each house explored their planet through creative missions, designing flags, mascots, and mottos. Our students showed creativity, teamwork, and school spirit! They designed flags, wrote stories, created mascots, and even started building their very own House Planet Book! 
  • House Book Creation & Writer’s Workshop – Students wrote poems, stories, and created artwork themed around their house planets. Their work will be compiled into a published book, celebrating their voice and creativity. Simultaneously, selected students joined a writer’s workshop with Malcolm for deeper storytelling insights. 
  • Book Signing – The day wrapped up with a personal book signing and photo session with our guest author.

Life Skills in Action at Riam Hill International Secondary School!

Our talented students had an amazing time exploring Beading and Looming techniques in their recent Life Skills class workshop! With creativity and enthusiasm, they learned the art of bead looming and practiced intricate beading techniques to craft their very own necklaces, waistlaces, earrings, and more. 
It was more than just hands-on learning—it was a celebration of culture, patience, and artistic expression. The smiles say it all! We’re so proud of their beautiful creations and the passion they brought to the workshop.

A Truly Inspiring Visit from Singapore!

We had the immense pleasure of welcoming three amazing visitors from Singapore to Riam Hill this week! Their presence brought fresh perspectives, artistic energy, and exciting possibilities for collaboration—especially in the field of Fine Arts. 
  1. Wendy Lim Wee Hian – A passionate theatre practitioner and educator, Wendy is an alumna of LASALLE College of the Arts. With rich experience in actor training across Japan and the U.S., she brings deep insight into movement, devising, and the Suzuki Method of Actor Training. Her recent work with Nine Years Theatre, SITI Company, and Drama Box has left us deeply inspired! (Fun fact: She also loves crocheting and games!)
  2. Andrew James Mowatt – A seasoned actor and Programme Leader (English Drama) at the School of Theatre, Andrew brings a wealth of experience from both the UK and Singapore stage. His award-winning performances and vibrant teaching philosophy reflect his deep dedication to nurturing the next generation of theatre artists.
  3. Jerry Koh – Representing the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Jerry plays a vital role in international student recruitment and admissions. His insights on student exchange and global arts education sparked great conversations on future partnerships and academic exchanges!

What an exciting dive into the world of trading!

Our Year 11 students had an unforgettable experience at the Trading World Workshop, Curtin University! 
A huge shoutout to Dr. Alpha Anak Ngadan and the amazing team for guiding our students through real-time trading scenarios using cutting-edge tools such as interactive Tableau and financial simulations. Students got hands-on with data analysis, made strategic decisions, and explored the fast-paced dynamics of modern markets. 
But that’s not all—they also had the privilege of a campus tour around Curtin, enjoyed a vibrant morning of discovery, and were thrilled to connect with Vincent Voo, a former Riam Hill student currently studies at Curtin University, during the session. It was such a proud and inspiring moment to see how connected and supported our students felt. 
It was truly a day of learning beyond the classroom—full of growth, confidence, and future-ready experiences. We’re so proud of the engagement and curiosity our students showed throughout!

Our Year 11 students had a blast on 14/03/2025 at RiamHill during the Monopoly Financial Fun Day! 
A huge thank you to Ms. Yip Ka Yii and her team from Curtin University for leading the event and bringing the game to life with real-world financial lessons. Students learned everything from financial planning to smart investments—all while enjoying a fun-filled session of Monopoly with a twist!

Exciting Update from Riam Hill International Secondary School!

We are truly delighted to share an amazing initiative that will benefit the health and well-being of our students! 

Mr. Eric Tan, the Chief Operating Officer of Interhill Hospitality and a proud parent of one of our Year 7 students, is leading an incredible collaboration to improve the food options in our school canteen. 

Through the Tea with parents and Fireside Wisdom Club, Mr. Tan is actively working to strengthen the bond between students, parents, and our school community. As part of this wonderful effort, he has connected us with Mr. Alan, who has a wealth of experience managing the food division of Pullman Hotels! Mr. Alan will be sharing his expert knowledge on creating healthy, nutritious, and balanced meals that will support our students’ growth, focus, and overall well-being. 

A huge thank you to our dedicated canteen operators, Mr. Anthony and Ms. Angel, for their enthusiasm in joining this important discussion! We are so excited for the positive impact this collaboration will have on our students’ health and happiness.

Coach Kelvin Gerald, the President of Kelab Olahraga SpeedForce Miri since 2020, is not only a Development and Initiation Coach but also a World Athletics (WA) Level 1 Coach. With his dedication to nurturing athletes and promoting sports excellence, we are lucky to have such an experienced and passionate coach guiding us!He’s also an HRDF Certified Trainer and an English Enhancement Program lecturer at Curtin University – truly a powerhouse in both education and coaching!

Chinese New Year Celebration at Riam Hill International Secondary School

Last Tuesday, we had a fantastic celebration of Chinese New Year at Riam Hill International Secondary School! Our sister school, Riam Road Secondary School, wowed us with a mesmerizing Lion Dance performance that had everyone on the edge of their seats! 
As a token of appreciation, our students gave angpao (red envelopes) to the talented Lion Dance performers, spreading even more joy and festive cheer!

Guinness World Record Ecobrick Event in Miri: A Huge Success!

What an incredible two-day celebration! From January 11th to 12th, Miri hosted a momentous Guinness World Record attempt for the Largest Donation of Ecobricks in 24 Hours. This event brought together 40 organizations, schools, and eco-conscious individuals to contribute to a sustainable future. 

🔹 Highlights from the Opening Ceremony (Jan 11):

The day kicked off with registration at 6:30 AM, followed by VIP arrivals, speeches from distinguished guests including YB Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, and a heartwarming video showcasing the event’s impact.
At 8:00 AM, the Guinness World Record attempt officially began with the first Ecobricks being registered and arranged into a stunning letter “T” in the middle of the stadium.
Over the next 24 hours, passionate participants from 40 organizations and schools worked tirelessly to collect and register their Ecobricks live on TV, reaching a record-breaking milestone!
🔹 Closing Ceremony (Jan 12):

The afternoon session brought together key figures like YB Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian (Deputy Premier) and Guinness World Record adjudicator Ms. Tomomi Sekioka, who witnessed the amazing efforts of all involved.After speeches and a video interview with Miri’s leaders, the Guinness World Record attempt was announced! 
We wrapped up the event with an exciting drone group photo, capturing the spirit of unity and sustainability.
This event not only set a Guinness World Record but also highlighted the power of community, collaboration, and environmental responsibility.

Riam Hill International Secondary School - 2025 School Year Reopening Celebration!

On January 10th, we officially kicked off the 2025 school year with an exciting and memorable day filled with festivities, achievements, and new beginnings!

The day began with the arrival of our eager students, followed by the spectacular Lion Dance Eye Dotting Ceremony , setting the tone for a year of growth and success. The students then gathered in the Shin Yang Hall for a truly inspiring Brass Band Performance, followed by heartfelt speeches from our Head Prefect and Acting Principal. 

A highlight of the morning was the Year 9 Outstanding Certificates Presentation Ceremony, where we proudly recognized and celebrated the outstanding achievements of our top scorers. Special awards were also presented, including the Sumiran Eco Award and Principal’s Award, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of our students.

The ceremony concluded with a spirited singing of the School Song, reinforcing the unity and pride we share as a school community.

The rest of the day was packed with important activities. A day filled with joy, recognition, and a warm welcome back to school for all our students. Here’s to another year of learning, growth, and achievement at Riam Hill!
